Artists live 50 Cent - Curtis (Polydor) Released 10/09/07

Many hip-hop pessimists believe this to be the making or breaking moment for not only the infamous G-Unit clique but also their boss, 50 Cent. However, after one listen to ‘Curtis’ the reality will sink in that while the New York emcee’s words can be used to humiliate and retire any opposition, his doubters words don’t carry the same kind of weight.

Since the release of his multi-million selling ‘Get Rich Or Die Tryin’, the music industry has change immensely. Album sales are down, overnight success stories are in fashion, and record labels aren’t interested in signing an artis... >>>

Ian Brown: "Give Bono And Bob Geldof A Restraining Order"
Artists live Ian Brown: Give Bono And Bob Geldof A Restraining Order

Ian Brown has slammed both Bono and Bob Geldof over the way they “hijacked” the G8 summit in 2005 with Live 8.

Both held in June, the G8 summit at Gleneagles featured an assembly of eight countries who had come together to draw up a package to solve both, the problems in Africa and the pressing issue of climate change.

Brown believes that the concert, however - which was held to raise awareness of the nationwide pandemics in Africa and featured performances from Madonna, Paul McCartney and Coldplay - took the emphasis away from the real issue being discussed by the politicians. >>

Thursday 13/09/07 Ali Love @ Notting Hill Arts Club, London
Artists live

So not really knowing what to expect, I hit über fashionable Yo Yo at Notting Hill Arts Club to check out Ali Love, who has been the centre of considerable A&R hype for some time now. Stepping into a scene of what feels like an astonishing mix of punters left over either from Scissor Sisters or Elton John gigs with the odd hippie in the corner, I’m not so much curious anymore but plainly terrified of what I’ve gotten myself into.

Anyway, after some time of ignoring the fashionistas checking me out with a vengeance and the sleazebags coming up to me with a vigour, Ali enters the scene and turns a nightmare into a sweet dream. The funk-soul-cheese-(in a good way)-singer has the presence of a young Elvis and even th... >>>

Political Power - Gravenhurst
Artists live Political Power - Gravenhurst

Gravenhurst

Politics, for many of us, is this slippery slithering slope that we rarely chose to meander down for fear of sliding into the deep dark depths of ‘grown up’ conversation. For most of us, this is a world we music types do not titter too close to the brink of, afraid once swallowed into the blessed fray, we may never return. Gravenhurst, aka Nick Talbot, is not one to shy away from political discussions as Gigwise finds out. In fact, his blog is full of cruxes of the political kind.>>
